A collection of images of Valley Rambler vintage coaches out and
about. Mostly on weddings, some celebrations and at rallies or running
days. The pictures are more or less in chronological order, so scroll down to
the bottom of the page to see the most recent additions

Our first outing in 2002 was to the Queen
Elizabeth Country Show on a scorching hot day in July. Arriving at
show, along a dusty track, Paul is driving in his usual summer attire of
shorts and a string vest!. Thank goodness the resolution of this
picture is not good enough to see this level of detail!
|
| Parked up close to the entrance, JAB attracted a huge amount
of attention. This was before we had formed the business and a number
of people, noticing the "name" of the coach as "Valley
Rambler" made comment about remembering Valley Rambler from when they
were in business. Well, we can now reveal that it was a totally made
up name by the previous owner of the coach, but there was plenty of brand
recognition and so we "stole" the name.
A rather nice Triumph TR6 is parked in front of us
(now, <<in best Loyd Grossman voice>> who could possibly
own a car like that?)

Probably the largest gathering of Bedford OB's to be seen is
at the "Bedford Gathering" held on the bank holiday Sunday in
August in Cambridge. In fact, it's the largest gathering of Bedfords in
the world that we know of.
|
| We took part in the Bournemouth to RAF Colerne road run
organised by Commercial
Transport in Preservation in early September 2002 and were very
pleased to be awarded the "Norman Aish" shield for the best
single deck PSV in the run. Pictured here are the chuckle
brothers with the Mayor of Bath. At least Paul has a shirt on today,
even if he is wearing shorts... As reported elsewhere, we were
awarded the shield again in September 2003 for our Bristol MW. And
then in 2004, we were awarded the shield for "Best Bedford" for
our SB. And again, in September 2005, our MW was once again awarded the Shield
for best single deck PSV. The second picture here shows our MW resting at
Warminster during the 2005 event. Due to circumstances beyond
anyone's control, the event was changed a little for 2006, but we were
unable to enter as the clutch for the Bristol was under repair (and it was
about time we let someone else win some of the silverware!!)

January 1st is the traditional date for the Winchester
running day, organised by FoKAB.
Pictured in the yard of Taylors of Sutton Scotney, we see both OB and SB
that ran in service on 1st January 2003. The white monster behind is
a former London Transport Titan that Kevin drove for a short time on
school runs around Winchester. Thanks to Max Taylor for kindly
letting us clutter up his yard.

A few rally pictures:
 | 1 taken at the Thorneycroft Society's rally at Basingstoke and shows
a collection of six Bedford coaches - 3 OB's, 2 SB's (with different
body styles showing the changes from the 50's to the 60's and Mervyn
Annett's little Bedford W coach. |
 | 2 shows the Valley Rambler Bedfords at the very last Southsea Spectacular,
held on the Common on a hot but exceptionally windy Sunday in early
June. A few trader's stands went flying - one quite
literally! |
 | 3 is one of those pictures that was just snapped, but came out
really well. Taken at the Alton bus rally, it shows our SB off
to perfection against a summer park landscape |

We were always busy with weddings and anniversaries.
We did a Ruby Wedding Anniversary party for a delightful couple early in
2003, which consisted of a trip to "Milestones" from Fareham and
return.
 | The top is a composite image of the party at both ends of the
journey. It really is quite suprising how many people will fit
in a coach... |
Next is a 60th birthday party held at the Watercress Line on their
1950's day. Both Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley put in guest
appearances.
We didn't usually get much time to take pictures at Weddings, but the
here are a few we've captured. The coach driver seen walking between
the 2 coaches in one of the pictures is Paul, dressed up in his 1950's
coach drivers uniform - baggy trousers, waistcoat, pocket watch, drivers
badge, peaked hat. Finally, in this section - we hope the bride and groom
won't mind us using their picture |
|
| Here's an unusual looking picture. Shot inside
Southampton Docks at the cruise liner terminal, our Bristol MW waits for a
group of tourists who are visiting the UK on a European Tour at the
end of May 2005. We were booked to take them on a nostalgic "Vintage
Coach and Steam Train" trip in conjunction with the Watercress Line.
A great success, much enjoyed by many whose only experience of coach
travel had been on a Greyhound Bus - or so they told us. It
must have been quite a cruise as I overheard one of the passengers
mentioning that she'd seen the White Cliffs of Dover as they were entering
Southampton. Hmmmmm |

This was a tricky shot - taken by a friend who took an
earlier service to Sutton Scotney during one of the King Alfred new year
running days and caught us running down the hill into the village |
|
|
| One of our first trips out with the Bristol was to the Warminster
Running Day in late 2003. We're very pleased to hear that this is
being reinstated for 2005 and look forward to attending |

During the early summer of 2005, we took a party from
Southampton to the former Horsebridge railway station, which is now a
restaurant, for a "significant" birthday party. Many
thanks to birthday girl Sarah Fox for allowing us to reproduce the next
three images.
|
|

|
Parked up in a residential area of Southampton, the party
embark the coach for the journey along the Test Valley
|
| Having arrived at Horsebridge, along some very narrow lanes,
we rest up for the afternoon before the journey home...
|

|
|

|
...and finally load up again after a very enjoyable
afternoon for the journey home. Horsebridge station has hardly
changed since it was first built on the 'Spratt and Winkle' branch line between Romsey and
Andover. |
